THE SUMMER SCHEDULE: COMBINED 10:00 a.m.
June 7 – August 23, 2015
The Vestries of Farnham & St.John’s have approved a trial summertime-only single service at 10:00 a.m. from June 7th through August 23rd. Many congregations combine their early and late worship into a common “summertime” service; for us it is the same – on a trial basis. 9 & 11 become 10:00. BUT our one service challenges us to combine the location as well. We hope it means a more robust summertime attendance at worship and coffee hour; less work for two altar guilds now sharing the work, and less repeat sign-ups for those who faithfully provide the Sunday refreshments at separate congregations. [It does not affect or cancel two of the “fifth Sundays’ combined” worship on May 31 & August 23.]
The idea started in the spring when there was an informal discussion started by a member during a coffee hour, and in the ensuing weeks some others began thinking and talking about this possibility raised by a parishioner. As it progressed, two members (both on the altar guilds) designed a very logical schedule so that there are only six location changes from June 7 to August 23 while staying at one church for two Sundays in a row before moving to the other for two Sundays. We will alternate between Holy Eucharist & Morning Prayer every week without exception – June 7 is Morning Prayer. (“5th Sunday joint on May 31st is Holy Eucharist).
HOW WILL WE “KEEP TRACK?” There will be schedules sent next week (June 3) by hard copy mail. Enclosed will be two copies of the schedule and several small wallet/purse sized schedules. The weekly E-pistle will have the full schedule every week (a “link” – just click it on to read it). The office recorder will remind each week of the coming Sunday details. Except for the time change to 10:00 a.m., our challenge is to know “WHERE” – but we aim to have multiple information available: by phone / hard copy / wallet/purse cards / internet / and new outside signs and even a brochure box (weather proof outside on the building). Please offer suggestions or if you encounter problems: call the office (804-333-4333) or use the Interim Rector’s cell (757-635-3557).
Please note: our Interim Rector is offering a 45 minute discussion after the coffee time each Sunday for anyone interested. The subject will be published in advance the week before in bulletins and The E-pistle. The first time will be June 7 and at that time anyone can request a topic for one of the 12 Sundays.
Your Prayers Are Requested
Almighty and everliving God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for our parish families. Strengthen the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. BCP p. 817
